Our training uses a science based approach, it is humane and fear free. We use positive reinforcement training techniques that result in creating a strong bond between you and your pet. Aversive training tools including prong/choke/shock collars will not be used.
Jen Person, LVT
Jen is a licensed veterinary technician who has been practicing for over 25 years. Her professional interest include dog behavior, dentistry, anesthesiology, chemotherapy, and education clients about Fear Free veterinary and grooming visits. She is passionate about helping fearful and/or anxious dogs cope with what they perceive as stressful events. Her goal is to use positive reinforcement training to make things like veterinary visits, grooming, and nail trims less stressful for the dog- ultimately helping to strengthen the bond between a human and their dog making for a long, happy life together.
Continuing to learn and expand her skills is very important to Jen- she does this by attending workshops and webinars that focus on science based, force free training techniques. She has a special interest in helping dogs who suffer from separation anxiety and also loves to train cooperative grooming/husbandry behaviors.
Jen also loves introducing people to the world of dog sports. Dog sports can be a great way to have fun with your dog and it helps people and their dogs form an amazing bond. She is a Canine Good Citizen evaluator and a Tricks Title evaluator. She also trains and competes with her own dogs, Syrie and Lita, in AKS and WCRL Rally Obedience, Agility, Tricks, and more!
Jen also offers in home private training lessons and group training classes through Down Dog Studio.

What is a behavioral consult?
Behavior Consults take place in clinic. Jen will discuss the behavior of concern with you and work with your dog one on one. She will send you home with the skills and resources to successfully continue working with your dog. In some cases, a follow up appointment or group training classes may be recommend. Jen teaches classes at Down Dog Studio as well and may refer your pet to the studio for further training.
Behavior consults may be recommended by your dog’s doctor for the following concerns:
Anxiety, including separation anxiety
Guarding behaviors
Aggression
Stranger Danger (running/ hiding or barking/lunging at strangers)
Reactivity towards other pets or people
Reactivity towards objects (bikes, cars, skateboards, etc.)
Potty training issues for dogs over 1yr of age
Excessive barking
Dogs in household fighting/ not getting along
Current clients may schedule behavior consults at anytime for the following concerns without a doctor recommendation:
Puppy play biting/mouthing
Puppy potty training for dogs under 1yr of age
Destructive puppy behavior (chewing, digging, etc.)
